Electric Drive Models
Our models are available with electric drive (except SW-7 & S-12)
Our electric units are amazingly powerful as well as dependable . Combined with the included sound system our electric locomotives are impressive in terms of performance and realism. Most of the elements of the control system are managed by the hand held control panel which has been built specifically for operation of our electric locomotives.
We are using a 4 quadrant electronic controller which provides for forward, reverse, acceleration and braking. Our controllers use state-of-the-art power transistors which provide for ultra-smooth speed control with minimum losses in electrical supply and minimal heating in the controller, motor and wiring. Our controllers provide for regenerative braking which helps reduce battery drain and extends time between battery charging.
Application of axial permanent magnet motors provide for huge power. These electric units can actually out-pull the gas powered models. The efficiency of the motor and control system allows the motor to develop high torque from a stand-still and full speed under load is impressive. The early electrics that we saw around the various tracks had relatively short run times but with our current technology it is not unusual to run several days on a charge.
The addition of sound systems and other optional features really make for an impressive locomotive.
These electric locomotives can be converted to radio control if desired. (you do it)
